  2. John J. Sullivan, 65, the former manager of The Dalles Branch of U.S. Bank and an active member in numerous local organizations, died Thursday morning at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland. Mr. Sullivan was born Feb. 8, 1914 in Heron Lake, Minn. He moved to The Dalles as manager of U.S. Bank in 1969 from La Grande, where he had been manager there since 1953. He retired from the local bank in 1976. Mr. Sullivan was a World War II Veteran, and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army: He was chairman of the local chapter of the American Red Cross from 1973 to 1975 and was treasurer of the Wasco County United Way Campaign in 1970 and co-campaign chairman in 1976. Other memberships included St. Peter's Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus, where he' was a Fourth Degree Member: The Danes Rotary Club; The Dalles Country Club: The Dalles Elk's Club, No. 303; the Windbaggers, and the Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Frances, The Dalles; two sons, Joseph P.., The Dalles, and Daniel R., Murray, Utah: a daughter, Julia Brest, Sydney, Australia;; six sisters, Mary Sullivan, Mankato, Minn.: Geraldine De Muth, St. Paul, Minn. : Genevieve Markert. Long Beach, Calif.; Dorothy Reuter, Hyattsville, Md: Catherine Schmidt, Neptune, N.J.: and Helen Pappas, Anchorage; and two brothers, Sylvester and Donald, both of Heron Lake. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home will handle the funeral arrangements.
